BIO
Alfredo Figueroa Herrera
Alfredo was born in Santiago, Chile in 1991 during the country's transition from dictatorship to democracy. He received his primary education at Boston College and attended the prestigious Altazol school during his teenage years. It was during this period of his life that he learned to write stories, narratives, and draw comics. He also became enamored with the films of the New Hollywood era of the 70s, particularly those of Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola, who inspired him to write screenplays. Other directors who greatly influenced him were Stanley Kubrick and Italian Neorealism directors such as Bertolucci and Pasolini.Â
In 2019, during the social unrest in Chile, he went out to film the revolutionary scene along with many compatriots. In 2020, he wrote the first part of a series on world wars in a fictional world, but obviously inspired by the history of the 20th century. In 2021, he began writing a long novel, "Zar del Sexo," about a powerful, multimillionaire pimp and terrorist. In 2022, he enrolled in a film program once again at Academia La Toma, where he took a diploma in film and a workshop on directing actors. Here, he created more screenplays such as "Ego," a story about a magnate, "Fear is the Medium," a critique of the media, and "Natives," about the conflict between the Chilean government and the Mapuche people. He also wrote and directed the short film "The Best Archer" and served as a co-writer and assistant director on the short film "The Last Class."
In October 2022, a new script about a cult called "Order of the Cross" begins, and in December the short film is filmed. In January, the editing and submission to the Jim Thorpe Festival takes place, where it becomes a candidate for best foreign short film.
